I've seen it a handful of times, and it cemented my man-crush on Jesse Eisenberg.

It's a funny movie that balances the absurd, the funny, and packs a nice moral without ever even approaching heavy-handed. I said it was going to be awful and that I wouldn't watch it.

The result is better than I expected, but not what the movie offered, and frankly, if you go into it expecting the movie again, you'll be disappointed. The movie had some fun dialogue and a present but subtle point. The TV show is much better at slap-stick gags. It showed a commitment to the dialogue and the theme and the character development, but it was honestly boring. That part is not written nearly as well as the movie, and I strongly suspect that it won't get better over time. The slapstick gags are funny though.

While predictable, there were several times I laughed out loud, which is something I seldom do for slap-stick comedy, especially if I go into it promising myself to dislike it. Sign in. Modified Date: January 3, Viewers might remember Columbus' talk of Sister Cynthia Knickerbocker and her zombie kill of the week — dropping a church piano on a muncher — in the movie.

At the inception of Zombieland , before it was retooled as a movie, the zombie kill of the week was supposed to feature in each instalment of the series. Critics were quick to point out the numerous F-bombs and gratuitous violence that still failed to capture the spirit of the movie. Not all is lost though. More than a little poignant considering the show's quick demise.

Back when Zombieland first bowed out, the idea of a spin-off show was novel. The Walking Dead was just finding its stride, while Fear The Walking Dead and the currently untitled teen series were just pipe dreams.

Although it didn't include hordes of the brain-hungry undead, the Will Forte-led series charted the end of the world and famously starred A-list talent including January Jones, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig and Jack Black over its four-season run.

You guys successfully hated it out of existence. While dissatisfaction from hardcore Zombieland fans no doubt factored into Amazon's decision to cancel it, it's unfair to say that this was the sole reason for Zombieland not getting commissioned for a full season. The pilot was - to be put it bluntly - just not very good, something that was widely reflected in the reviews.

The criticisms levied at Reese and Wernick for choosing to have the show be about the characters from the movie proved to be valid as the pilot jumped right into the Columbus-Wichita romance subplot with some seriously clumsy exposition, and in general it felt like the actors were trying too hard to emulate the performances of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin. The Zombieland pilot also had some pretty stiff competition in what Amazon were quite open about promoting as a gladiatorial fight to full series commission.
